Client W – Privacy & Data Security
Client W is a small law firm with a specialty requiring great attention to data security, privacy, and collaborative workflow. The individual partners work from their homes, with files being edited and stored in a central location. Prior to moving to remote, all files were stored on a central in-office file server and backed up to both local and remote backup servers.
Client W requires very little customer face time at their office, and has decided to move all employees to remote (home) offices. Client W had purchased one server which Daily Data has turned into a Virtual Server Hypervisor (Node) containing virtuals for a Windows Terminal Server 2022 virtual, a public web/email server, an internal NextCloud server (for real time backup, shared and private calendars and contacts) and a private, secure internal mail server. This allows operations to continue seamlessly even when visiting customer offices across the US. Client W had Daily Data retask an older workstation as a backup server physically residing at the owner’s home office.
Daily Data manages all aspects of IT support for Client W.
Client A – Large-capacity archival storage with multiple user access by Mac OS Workstations
Client A is a commercial printer requiring storage of multiple terabytes of archival projects, current projects and auxilary files. All files require long term retention and access from both Windows and MacOS workstations.
Originally, Client A had a simple Linux server providing SMB (Windows File Sharing) access which was backed up over a VPN connection to a leased server at the Daily Data NOC. At the most recent upgrade, it was decided to move to the open source version of TrueNAS for both the file server and the backup server. The backup server is leased from Daily Data and, both servers are managed by us to free the technologically knowledgeable people at the client to concentrate on their job of providing excellent design and print services to clients.
Recently, Client A outgrew the capacity of their backup server. Since it is leased from and managed by Daily Data, we upgraded to a new machine with more capacity, and moved all files to it at no additional cost to the client.
Client R – Multiple Users and proprietary software
Client R is a title company with multiple employees who need to access an industry-specific software package securely, as well as communicating with and transmitting large documents to clients. They have both in-person and remote employees, so VPN access with an on-site router into a Windows Terminal Server has been the best solution for them. Colocation allows for faster access and better uptime for the Windows server than maintaining it at an office site with business-grade internet. A cloud server allows secure client downloads of files too large to reliably transmit via email.
Client D – Industrial environment and client communications
Client D is in a fabrication industry where their clients need to recieve and review invoices and specification documents via email in a timely manner, while allowing for orders to stay organized for the shop employees on site. With a private cloud server, they’re able to maintain access to files for everyone on the team.
Client P – large capacity data archives and supporting in-house technician.
Client P is a commercial printer requiring storage of multiple terabytes of archival projects, current projects and auxilary files. All files require long term retention and access from Windows, Linux and MacOS workstations.
ClientP had a Linux virtual server with Samba access for their workstations, in addition to an FTP server allowing their customers to upload files for different projects. They also had a Linux server for backup which was colocated at Daily Data’s NOC. This machine was synchronized with the file and the FTP server nightly.
After 7 years of continuous operation, ClientP decided to replace their servers and Daily Data built two new TrueNAS servers for them (replacing the original production and backup servers). Additionally, ClientP requested web build a special purpose Virtualization platform to hold 7 virtuals for various uses within their organization.
Client P has an in house technician who provides most support functions. Daily Data is called in occassionally when the in-house technician is too busy or has an area of need which he is not familiar with.
Client S – remote employee networking in a multi-OS environment
ClientS is a artist agency coordinating artists with clients in the fashion industry. Most of their work is done on MacOS machines, but one of their critical programs requires Microsoft Windows workstations, and the workstations must be on the same network. Both employees work remotely.
Daily Data provides two Microsoft Windows 10 Professional virtuals at our NOC, which the employees access over VPN and Microsoft Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP). The data on both virtuals is backed up real time to Daily Data’s public NextCloud (https://nextcloud.com/) instance.
